Populus tremuloides, Quaking aspen (G043) Pre-Bonsai
Species description: Quaking Aspen are the most widely distributed deciduous tree in North America, spanning from the mountains of Mexico to interior Canada. A smooth bark with graceful movement (even when aged), remains an elegant focal point. The small leaves lend well to bonsai aesthetics, with striking golden autumn color which is famous worldwide. Aspen are best suited for colder climates and will not perform well in hot environments.
Specimen description: This tree has been chopped once to develop taper, and wired twice in a manner that respects the elegant movement of the species. The tree has had the washer nebari development technique applied to it, resulting in a flat root system. The technique created two main radial roots, allowing for further improvement including: scarification, annual pruning, and grafting. The lower branches have been positioned to graft onto the mid section of the trunk next year so that the tree can make a convincing medium bonsai. This tree ships dormant. Oregon and Washington state customers, please read our shipping policies.
USDA zones: 2-7
Light requirements: Full sun, Aspen are known to be the most light hungry broad leaf species
Watering requirements: Keep moist, do not let fully dry
