Species description: A southwestern United States native, this species features silvery evergreen foliage and flaking gray bark that comes with maturity. Its compact growth and tiny leaves make it ideal for any size bonsai.

Specimen description: This mountain mahogany has been styled in a rugged manner that reflects their harsh mountain habitats. The branching of the tree has been cut back multiple times to induce back budding, and is now ready to be extensively wired by the future artist. The tree was originally styled in a semi exposed root fashion. A few roots on the right side have died (as seen in photo 6), due to an animal. However, to include this in the tree’s story and paying homage to the ruggedness of the species, these roots could be left to natural rot and the tree could be planted at an angle or planted near a stone.

This tree ships dormant. Oregon and Washington state customers, please read our shipping policies.

USDA zones: 3-9

Light requirements: Full sun

Watering requirements: Drought tolerant, can be allowed to slightly dry between waterings
