Species description: One of the most popular species for bonsai, trident maples respond very well to leaf reduction and ramification techniques. A soft grey bark contrasts with the vibrant green of the summer leaves and rich red of the fall leaves. Trident maples will need proper winter protection.

Specimen description: This tree has been chopped once to develop taper (scar will be unnoticeable in the next couple of years). It has been pruned to develop proper low branching, and wired twice. The washer nebari technique has been applied and the tree has been repotted twice resulting in a fairly good nebari with a few gaps fillable by scarification or grafting. This tree has great potential and many options for the future artist to progress its design. This tree ships dormant. Oregon and Washington state customers, please read our shipping policies.

USDA zones: 5-8

Light requirements: Full sun, but may need protection from intense afternoon sun depending on your region

Watering requirements: Keep moist, paying close attention to the health of the leaves
